Aehee Shin was born in Oklahoma. When she was four years old, her family returned to South Korea, and she grew up there. Shin was influenced by her mother who studied art education and naturally exposed to her mother's love for cloisonné, prints, and paintings.
Shin attained Illustration BFA, and MFA in Illustration Practice from Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), and she practiced a wide use of illustration and mainly focused on narrative illustration and stop-motion animation during her college years. She has been dedicated to creating children’s picture books and published two children's picture books titled Red String(2011) and Lina's Crayons(2013) in South Korea. In addition to that, she has been working as a freelance illustrator/designer engaging in several commissioned works like paper-toy design and character design, and stock illustration. Currently, she lives in Huntsville, Alabama and passionately puts her energy into teaching visual art for little kids and creating various kinds of design/illustration using both traditional and digital mediums.
